Our total manufacturing capacity is above 3 million tonnes per annum generating an annual EBITDA of ~300 M€. INEOS Oxide is an energetic business which is growing actively on a global level, with projects to extend our production base to new sites in North America and Asia in addition to continued investment on our existing platforms. Purpose of the Job:
The primary accountabilities of the Bayport Laboratory Supervisor are as follows:
- Supervise seven (7) laboratory technicians. Keep them engaged, combating complacency, ensure timely and accurate laboratory results, and look for more efficient ways to perform tasks. Work with operations supervisors to address the site's needs.
- Schedule overtime and manage the vacation relief technician position to ensure value generation from that position.
- Perform laboratory training and compliance certifications.
- Provide SHE leadership within the laboratory and within the site.
- Manage, optimize, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
- Resolve non-conformances.
- Work with customer fulfilment and supply chain on SAP batch management of product deliveries.
- Responsibility for the lab SQC program to ensure accurate and timely completion of routine and non-routine samples.
- Prepare all standards for accuracy and ensure each standard applies to the site's process and capability.
- Author new procedures and work instructions as well as reviewing and revising existing procedures and work instructions
- Ensure ISO 9001 and TCEQ compliance for Bayport Laboratory
- Work with various business groups to resolve quality issues arising from customer complaints.
- Interface with technical, operations and customers
- Maintain LabWare laboratory LIMS.
- Maintain the laboratory infrastructure in good working condition.
- Maintain in-house generators and backup systems to ensure the lab can provide service 24/7.
- Maintain spare parts for critical systems.
- Manages purchasing account for all vendors and suppliers. Responsible for laboratory materials and Direct Cost budgets.
Internal and External Factors: The candidate is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a 24/7/365 laboratory. This is a leadership position, and the employee must be able to manage accountability and influence people by communicating to all levels of the organization, prioritizing work, taking ownership for the safety, and maintaining processes and assets. Internal factors will be supporting operations, Environmental critical samples, process safety sampling, and ensuring the technicians are trained and have the available tools. This position will be a primary contact for Technical Services and Customer Fulfilment so this employee will need to have the interpersonal capability of supporting these groups while prioritizing business requests.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities Accountabilities: SHE
- Maintain and control the safe and efficient operation of the Bayport Laboratory using established operating disciplines and procedures. Ensure safety and environmental compliance is achieved.
- Responsible for maintaining the laboratory assets and protective systems integrity.
- Assist in defining and maintaining a laboratory threat board to proactively address safety risks.
- Participate in the development of operating procedures and training materials.
- Support the OSHA VPP efforts including laboratory participation in the site employee safety team.
- Ensure environmental compliance by working with the Environmental department on routine sample canister management including HON rule summa canister repair management.
- Understand and lead by example for all safety and environmental programs.
- Investigate all SHE incidents.
- Routinely collect, report, and address SHE near misses.
- Complete all assigned action items from incidents, investigations, and audits in a timely manner and keep status and plans for action items updated.
- Maintain safety as the highest priority of the plant
- Maintain the 20 Principles of Safety and Process Safety.
- Responsible for AsCare compliance of the laboratory and retain buildings. Conduct routine AsCare tours and participate in audits.
- Adhere to and uphold all safety policies and standards
Manufacturing Excellence - Deliver established production targets for asset while complying with quality specifications.
- Troubleshoot process problems with Production Specialists, Technical, Maintenance and Operations teams.
- Cross train and provide backup for the laboratory Chemist/Quality Analyst.
- Benchmark, identify and implement best in class improvements and practices to improve the operation and efficiency of the unit.
- Actively provide input and participate in technician development and training programs.
- Lead and/or participate in root cause investigations.
- Assist in identifying and closing performance gaps, which can include project development and execution.
- Provide data to validate that the projects deliver performance objectives after implementation.
- Provide technical support and coach site personnel on measurements and updates of technology performance and asset utilization data.
- Track laboratory sample workload and technician efficiency. Identify opportunities to optimize the laboratory to minimize cost.
- Evaluate typical analytical data annually and update typical values as needed.
Skills/Competencies: Level of Education & Experience in general - Bachelor's Degree required. STEM field preferred.
- 10 years of industrial laboratory experience (chemicals, fuels, polymers, R/D).
- 3 years of leadership experience.
Technical Skills - Training Skills
- Keen computer skills with knowledge of MS Office
- Working knowledge of a LIMS system (Sample Manager, LabWare, BLISS) with superuser experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of equipment sizing
- Basics knowledge of gas chromatography, distillation, TOC, benchtop laboratory methodologies.
- Basic knowledge of ISO9001: 2015.
